About the department
The Department of Computing Sciences is part of the Division of Science and Mathematics, located in the Merritt Penticoff Science Building.
The mission of the department is to create and disseminate cutting edge knowledge in technology with a strong educational program. This program equips students with knowledge to become competitive software developers, project managers, systems analysts, database administrators, and network engineers.
Our key areas of focus are in Software(Application Development I, II, Data Structures, Web Programming, Mobile Application Development), Project Management (Project Management & Practice), Database Design and Development, Systems (Networks, Operating Systems). The unique combination of software intensive courses with project management and systems analysis offers our graduates a variety of employment opportunities in different industry areas.
We foster collaboration in multidisciplinary projects with other departments, local universities and industry. Our students have a rounded knowledge and collaborate with other departments on projects. We also offer multiple opportunities for internships with industry. Finally, we are strongly knit with the Jacksonville community, working with high schools on programs such as "Science and Math Day" and "Robots, Dwarves and Alice" workshop.
