Two teams from the department of Computing Sciences participated this year in the prestigious programming contest, ICPC (ACM Southeast USA Regional Intercollegiate Programming Contest) on October 29, 2011. Team "JU team 1" was formed by George Antonio, Marc Cribb, and Matthew Weldon. Team "kill-9" was formed by Julian Bravard, Andrew Duane, and Mike Pellitiere. The teams were coached by Professor Anne Acker and Dr. Xenia Mountrouidou.
The results were extraordinary considering the short preparation the teams had. Team "JU team 1" got an award for the fastest C# submission and ranked 10th on the novices. Team "kill-9" ranked 16th on the novices. In addition, this is the first time a JU team ranked in the top 50 of the Southeast region that included schools from Georgia, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina and Mississippi.
The competition was a fruitful experience for both students and professors. The programming contest lasts for 5 hours during which the students need to solve and code as many problems as possible correctly and efficiently. It is a tedious task, nevertheless a rich learning experience. We are looking forward to the next competition at Mercer on February 25, 2012!!

The preparation was a lot of fun. The teams solved problems and practiced in fast and efficient coding of their solutions. Below are some pictures from this programming journey:
