The Physical Education program has grown to include three tracks – Teaching, Sports Administration, and Exercise Science. Graduates of the program have started careers as physical education teachers and coaches in the schools; as fitness instructors and trainers; with major and minor sports teams; and in other sports, health and fitness-related positions. The teaching track is a state-approved program that leads to certification for K-12 physical education.
Physical education faculty and students have access to a variety of on-campus facilities and resources, including Swisher Gym, fitness center and weight room; pool; and facilities for tennis, volleyball, baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, football and other sports. As part of the Physical Education Majors Club, students promote health and wellness through community service projects such as Family Fitness Nights at local elementary schools; the Special Olympics; and a challenger softball game with local school children with disabilities.
The Physical Education Exercise Science track is designed for students who want to pursue interests in health and wellness. Graduates are prepared to become strength trainers, coaches and fitness professionals, and to pursue careers in health clubs, fitness centers, hospital facilities and other venues. The curriculum combines physical education courses with the study of anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, nutrition, chemistry and other related topics. |
